As 2019 is fresh, and I mean FRESH! I figured it’s a good time to shout about creating smart objectives for the new year!
I know the whole New Year, New Me thing is a phase for most people. And yes, that lasts until around the second or third week of January.
BUT we are not most people and WE are going to plan for our upcoming year. After all, failing to plan is planning to fail and all that jazz, right?!
Recap: Smashing your goals to create a better life
In my post, How to smash your goals and create a better life, I showed you simple techniques to create smart objectives that would improve your life immensely.
The first step involves a deep investigation into your life. This is to find out the areas that you’re not happy with and things you want to improve on.
The main areas that people typically want to work on are:
- Bucket list
You know what they say? Knowing is half the battle. Once you have uncovered the areas in your life that you are least happy with, you can come up with a plan.
I suggest splitting your goals into two segments. The overall goals you would like to achieve this year; and smart objectives that you will achieve each month to take you a step closer to your big picture goals.
If you haven’t read How to smash your goals and create a better life yet then check it out now and come back when you’re finished.
Revisiting your smart objectives
I created my list of smart objectives nearly two months ago and it should never be a stationary project.
A set of goals is ever evolving, once you accomplish one goal, you move the goal posts. Therefore, it’s a good idea to revisit your list regularly.
New Year New Me: smart objectives for 2019
The smart objectives I would like to achieve this year vary from simply spending more time with friends to big life events like buying a house.
My list is below, the items in bold are new
- Spend time with the people that are important to me
- Become fitter, healthier and mentally free
- Learn new skills and improve existing skills
- Buy a house
- Travel to more destinations
- Clear my overdraft
- Increase reach of Geez Louise
To accomplish each of these smart objectives, I am taking small steps each month in 2019. My plan is as follows. You can follow the same structure too!
“Surround yourself with positive people who believe in your dreams, encourage your ideas, support your ambitions, and bring out the best in you.” Roy Bennett
To make sure I spend the time I want with my family I have set out a day each week where I visit and catch up with them.
To enhance my friendships, I am making myself more available to attend gatherings, parties, nights out and events.
Life will get in the way sometimes but that’s no excuse to make an effort to see the people I want to see.
Recently, I bought myself a DSLR Camera. I have been interested in photography for a long time and I felt that my phone camera just wasn’t cutting the mustard.
To explore photography further, I have signed up to workshops, I’ve been researching different techniques and have delved into the world of photo editing.
I am dedicated to learning as much about photography as I can, and ss Shia Le
JUST DO IT!
Health and fitness
While I have not been doing the best I could have done with my fitness and weight loss over the Christmas period, I haven’t gained any weight. So that’s a slight victory!
I have begun to meditate each night to wind down before bed. I’m exercising more than before and I am making a conscious effort to eat fresh cooked meals. I am feeling the benefit now as my sleeping pattern has improved slightly and I feel slightly fitter than before.
In 2018 I married my partner in crime of fourteen years. In 2019 our next goal is to own our own home.
We’re currently renting and as much as we love the area and like the house, we want to have a home that is ours. A space that we can grow into and raise a family in.
To do this, we are looking into Co-Ownership because we do not have enough for a deposit at the moment.
2019 is also the year in which I will travel to more destinations. I will travel to places I have not yet been to and also revisit
Currently I have trips arranged for Amsterdam in March 2019 and Edinburgh in November. In between then I will visit Poland, have day trips around Ireland and also a holiday in the sun. Destination to be confirmed.
Another large achievement that I will aim for this year is clearing my overdraft. To do this I am setting aside a set amount of money each month.
By the end of 2019 my overdraft will be cleared and there will be extra money left over to go into savings.
A final goal for 2019 so far, is to increase the reach of Geez-Louise.com. I want to reach as many people as possible and spread the word on all things good about life. If you love this blog and want to help me achieve this goal please do share on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and also share with your friends and family.
We are all in this life together and I would really love to help as many people as I can!
